TikTok Shop takes a cut from every sale through multiple fee layers. The most significant is the platform referral fee, currently 8% for most product categories in the US. This is TikTok's commission for connecting you with buyers through their marketplace.
On top of the referral fee, there's a payment processing fee of approximately 2.9% per transaction. This covers credit card and digital wallet processing. Together, these two fees alone consume roughly 11% of your selling price before you factor in any other costs.
If you use TikTok's affiliate programto have creators promote your products, you'll also pay an affiliate commission — typically 10-20% on sales they generate. While affiliates can drive significant volume, the commission stacks on top of existing fees, so your per-unit margin needs to accommodate it.
Finally, many sellers run TikTok Ads or Spark Adsto boost visibility. Ad spend is often overlooked in profit calculations because it's not deducted per-order like fees are. But if you spend $1,000 on ads to generate 200 sales, that's $5 per unit in real cost that directly reduces your profit margin.
